One of the all-time greats of world tennis, Jimmy Connors, had asked Sania Mirza to focus on winning her matches and not just playing them.
'She may not be thinking on tennis, rather on something else', said the winner of several grand slam tournaments who was on a visit to Pune. The comment may come as a wake up call for Sania.
Obviously, her lack of focus in recent times has been noticed. Connors said that he has seen the Indian tennis star play and she can definitely improve her ranking if she is back to basics.
Mirza had the worst year in her career as tennis player in 2008. Not only this year she has battled injuries, been besieged with controversies and lost matches early, she has also gone down the ranking.
From a career high of 27, Mirza is now ranked 91. Connors said that once a player starts focusing on something else, it is difficult to win. Jimmy Connors also said that women's tennis now requires greater stamina and concentration as the level of the matches has gone up. Let's see if Sania takes this advice!
